Build in feedback
Standards without feedback loops are just expensive opinions. The feedback doesn't need to be complex—a five-minute huddle after morning checkout, a shared spreadsheet where staff log what broke, a monthly review where the metric gets discussed, not just reported. What usually breaks first is the feedback itself. Teams skip it when they're busy, then skip it again because last week got skipped, and within a month the standard exists only on paper. Quick reality check—if your feedback loop requires someone to remember to do it, it will die. Design it into existing rhythms. Attach it to the shift handoff. Tape it to the racking board. Make forgetting harder than doing.

A quarterly half-day where you audit the actual operation against the written standard. Not to punish, but to notice where reality has shifted and decide whether to pull the operation back or update the standard. Schedule the drift check before you launch.
